As Goa in rich in natural as well as cultural forms I want to project the motifs in a way that it enhances both the work as well as the region. I want to experiment in the use of material and investigate new artistic forms to express a complex and intricate system of ideas. I enjoy seeing an image take form and transform. It allows the viewer to transcend the mundane. Modernity in India will render many of the rural emblems obsolete.
I wish to use local Goan forms and materials in a contemporary manner and study extensively on that. Goa is abundant in flora and fauna. For example fish and rice is the staple food of Goa. The fish is a beautiful form signifying female fertility and abundance as well.
It’s not uncommon to see porcupines, turtles and peacocks running across the roads in Goa and it is very sad when they are being hunted even when some of them are banned or endangered. Art is a powerful medium where these beautiful animals and birds can be preserved by highlighting their aesthetic appeal. Also the same with the flora and fauna. The rising rate of constructions in Goa and environmental destruction are beginning to destroy the natural beauty of Goa. Goa is richly diverse with music, dance and art.One needs to preserve it by using these elements and embodying them in art. The vibrancy of Goa which is seen in the food, music and dance tends to bring colours and iconography into the works.Goa is a very colourful state and that is the inspiration for the works. The spectacular change of seasons from the lush green monsoons to pale dry colours of summer help me render the hues ranging from the veridien greens to the brilliant yellows. Also the colours of the ocean and the shores inspire my palette. The colours of each day, each sunrise and sunset is special with surreal golden light many times.
Many of my paintings embody and celebrate the important role of a woman in society and celebrate her. I depict the woman form as a modern contemporary woman of different races or origins as Goa has become home to people of many nations and quite multicultural. So I respect the woman no matter where she is from and she takes a role of a goddess where the different birds and animals of Goa surround, protect and revere her. Creation has started from her and ends with her. Hence the flora, fauna and wildlife of Goa are all around this woman form where the rich, vibrant colours of Goa play intuitively to produce a tapestry in rhythmic harmony which reflects the moods of Goa. I attempt to show cross cultural connections with local symbolism. These compositional elements appear in the surreal world created within the canvas which I hope will leave memories on the canvas of the mind to bring social change like giving women a rightful place in society, environmental preservation etc.
“My Paintings Embody And Celebrate The Important Role Of A Woman In Society” Aadhi Vishal.
Aadhi Vishals paintings embody and celebrate the important role of a woman in society. He depicts the contemporary woman form who transcends race and religion. The different fused hybrid forms derived from impressions of the subconscious about the past and future surround protect and revere her. Creation has started from her. All of nature is around this woman form where rich, vibrant colours of Goa play intuitively to produce a tapestry in rhythmic harmony which reflects varying moods. He attempts to show cross cultural connections with local symbolism. These compositional elements appear in the surreal world created within the canvas which he hopes will leave memories in the canvas of the mind to bring social change like environmental preservation, respect to women and all beings. The icon becomes central where she represents the universe and mother earth, where she could disguise herself as either a mythical goddess or a contemporary woman as he attempts to dissolve the borders between the two.
Aadhi Vishal is a freelance visual artist with his studio based in Goa. He has had several solo and group shows in India and abroad and art auctions. He has had the honour of exhibiting his works along with great masters like M.F.Husain and Raza. He had won the State art award in 2001. His works are in several prestigious private collections and museum collections all over the world. His works can be called phantasmogoric. Symbols, hybrid forms and stylised forms add curious twists to the narrated story transforming each and every work into a masterpiece.
The centralised iconic image of a beautiful woman in Aadhi’s works metaphorically stands in for the creative inspiration. She is a divine presence who masquerades as several characters. Aadhi looks at the Goan society and the spectacular scenes he sees around him find their critical representations in the various guises of this iconic young woman in his works.
